Meeting No. 20

Tuesday, September 25, 2001

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 9:14 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Wayne Easter, Georges Farrah, Dominic LeBlanc, James Lunney, Bill Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy, Guy St-Julien, Paul Steckle, Peter Stoffer, Suzanne Tremblay, Tom Wappel.

Acting Member present: Loyola Hearn for Gerald Keddy.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, research officer.

The Committee proceeded to future business of the Committee

The Chair presented the Second Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure as follows:

The Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans has the honour to present its

 

SECOND REPORT

 

Your Sub-Committee recommends that the Committee adopt the following programme:

 

That the Committee complete its report on the review of the Oceans Act on September 25 and October 2, 2001;

 

That the Committee be briefed on DFO’s approach to incidents on the Miramichi on September 27, 2001;

 

That the Committee hear representatives of the Newfoundland shrimp fishery on October 4, 2001.

 

That the Committee hear representatives of the Independent Panel on Access Criteria on October 16, 2001.

 

That the Committee hear departmental officials on Fraser River Salmon Fishery on October 18, 2001

 

That the Committee hear representatives of the Atlantic Fisheries Policy Review October 23, 2001

 

That the Committee hear departmental officials on marine infrastructure and its funding in mid-October, 2001

It was agreed, - That the Second Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure be adopted.

Pursuant to Section 52 of the Oceans Act, the Committee began its review of the draft Oceans Act Report.

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
