Meeting No. 61

Wednesday, October 24, 2001

The Standing Committee on Finance met at the Sheraton Grande Edmonton Hotel at 9:00 a.m., the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Lorne Nystrom.

Associate Member present: Jim Pankiw.

In attendance: From  the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart and Marc-André Pigeon, Researchers; Marion Wrobel, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the As Individual: Beverley Smith. From the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers: David Daly, Manager, Fiscal Policy; Dan Swift, Vice-President, Finance. From the Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Associated: Dr. R. Bayrock, Vice-President, Acupuncture Society of Alberta; Marc Raedschelders, Program Co-ordinator. From the Clean Air Renewable Energy Coalition: Marlie Burtt, Director, Tax, Suncor Energy Inc.; Gordon Lambert, Director, Environment Health and Safety. From the Women Warriors of Sahtu: Chief Cece McCauley; Don Sandercock, Advisor. From the Canadian Worker Co-operative Federation: Hazel Corcoran, Executive Director. From the Private Foundations Canada: Dr. David Elton, Chair, Government Relations Committee. From the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society - Edmonton Chapter: Sam Gunsch, Executive Director, Edmonton Chapter.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee continued its study on Pre-Budget Consultations.

David Daly, Dr. R. Bayrock, Beverly Smith made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Marlie Burtt, Hazel Corcoran, Dr. David Elton, Sam Gunsch, Chief Cece McCauley made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
