The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:06 a.m. this day, in the Empire Ballroom of the Hotel MacDonald, Edmonton, Alberta, John Harvard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: John Harvard, Keith Martin.
Acting Member present: Yves Rocheleau for Francine Lalonde.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the University of Alberta: Brian Stevenson, Associate Vice-president (International). From Stop TB - Halte à la tuberculose - Canada: Dr. Anna Fanning, Chair; Dr. Stan Houston, Member; Dr. Walter Kipp, Member. From the University of Alberta: Yasmeen Abu-Laban, Professor of Political Science. From the Alberta Federation of Labour: Kerry Barrett, Secretary-Treasurer; Jim Selby, Research Director. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on North American Integration and Canada's Role in the Light of New Security Challenges and the study of the Agenda of the 2002 G8 Summit (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No. 31).
Brian Stevenson, Dr. Anna Fanning, Dr. Stan Houston, Dr. Walter Kipp, Yasmeen Abu-Laban, Kerry Barrett and Jim Selby made statements and answered questions.
At 9:08 a.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in a video recorded session (CBC).
At 9:46 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in a non-video recorded session.
At 12:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 1:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Barry Scholnick, Satya Das, Rod Scarlett, Paul Hodgman and Senator Douglas Roche made statements and answered questions.
At 4:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
