The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Gurmant Grewal, Steve Mahoney, Gurbax Malhi, Inky Mark, John McCallum, Yolande Thibeault, Judy Wasylycia-Leis, Lynne Yelich.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Council for Refugees: Francisco Rico-Martinez, President; Janet Dench, Executive Director. From the Égale: John Fisher, Executive Director; Ron Chaplin, Chair, Political Action Committee; Michael Battista, Immigration & Refugee Lawyer. Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 27, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-11, An Act respecting immigration to Canada and the granting of refugee protection to persons who are displaced, persecuted or in danger (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, March 1st, 2001, Meeting No. 2).
Janet Dench and Francisco Rico-Martinez made opening statements and answered questions.

Ahmed Hashi and Saada Farah Abdi made opening statements and answered questions.
