Friday, May 4, 2001
The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 1:40 p.m. this day, in Montreal, at "Renaissance Hôtel du Parc", 3625 Du Parc Ave, "Salon du Parc" the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Inky Mark, John McCallum, Yolande Thibeault, Lynne Yelich.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jay Sinha, Researcher.
The Committee heard witnesses from Halifax via videoconference.
Witnesses: From the Atlantic Region Association of Immigrant-Serving Agencies: Kevin Arsenault, President. From the As Individual: Blair Hodgman, Lawyer, Allen & Hodgman, Barristers & Solicitors; Bruce C. Allen, Lawyer, Allen & Hodgman, Barristers & Solicitors.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 27, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-11, An Act respecting immigration to Canada and the granting of refugee protection to persons who are displaced, persecuted or in danger (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, March 1st, 2001, Meeting No. 2).
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 2:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
