The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 10:23 a.m. this day, in the Travelodge Trumpeter, Richmond “C” Room, Grande Prairie, Alberta, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Members present: Myron Thompson for David Anderson and Odina Desrochers for Suzanne Tremblay.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, researcher.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its Study on the Future Role of the Government in Agriculture.

Witnesses: Panel I: From the Alberta Canola Producers Commission: Ward Toma, General Manager; Nico Van Der Giessen, Director, Region 2.  As Individual: Tom Kulicki; Duane Stevenson; Allan Webber; Sadie Macklin; Norman Dyck; Leo Meyer; Dave Hegland.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 11:40 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:45 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Panel II: As Individual: Cliff Richards; Irv Macklin; John Sloan; Ron Matula; Wayne Davies; Claude Smith; Harry Schudlo and Art MacKlen.

At 1:15 p.m., Howard Hilstrom, Vice-Chair, took the Chair.
