The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 6:50 p.m. this day, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Odina Desrochers for Suzanne Tremblay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Future Role of the Government in Agriculture.

Appearing: From the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan: The Hon. Clay Serby, Minister of Agriculture and Food of Saskatchewan.

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

Witnesses: Panel I: From the Empress Line Producer Car Shippers Association: Edwin Wallace. From the Canadian Organic Certification Coop: Ken Hymers. From the Honey Bee Manufacturing Ltd.: Brad Nelson. From the Saskatchewan Party Caucus: Bill Boyd. As Individual: Con Johnson; Lynden Elviss; Newton Myers; Dean Smith. From the National Farmers' Union: Stewart Wells, President. As Individual: Keith Murch; Arnold Schmidt.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 9:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:30 p.m., the sitting resumed.
