The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Claude Duplain, Mark Eyking, Marcel Gagnon, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Bob Speller, Rose-Marie Ur.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Briefing Session.

Pusuant to Standing Order 108 (2), Consideration of Chapter 1 (Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Basin) of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development Report.

Bruce McTavish, Garry Watson, Jacques Côté and Jeff Hicks made a presentation and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10h05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10h14 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Johanne Gélinas and Yaprak Baltacioglu made a presentation and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11h33 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11h37 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera to consider its future business.

It was agreed,--That the Committee begin to examine the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) as soon as possible.

It was agreed,--That the Honourable Lyle Vanclief, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, be invited to appear before the Committee begins its study on the Future Role of the Government in February 2002, in order to give a briefing session on the five-year plan of the Department.

At 12:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
