MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Meeting No. 3
Thursday, March 1st, 2001
The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 9:16 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Claude Duplain, Marcel Gagnon, Charles Hubbard, Rick Laliberte, Larry McCormick, Paul Steckle and Suzanne Tremblay.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, researcher; Jean-Denis Fréchette, senior analyst.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider its future business.
It was agreed – That the Chair write to the Minister of Agriculture regarding the outbreak of the foot-and-mouth disease affecting livestock production in the United Kingdom.
It was agreed – That the Committee held the following meetings in the priority as listed :
The Auditor General of Canada accompanied by Officials from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, (including the topic of biotechnology);
The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food;
Officials responsible for the Free Trade Zone negotiations of the Americas; and
Departmental Officials from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada regarding farm income and safety net.
It was agreed – That the committee accept the request of the Canadian Wheat Board to appear before it on April 3, 2001.
At 10:25 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
