Meeting No. 25

Thursday, June 7, 2001

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:13 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Claude Duplain, Mark Eyking, Marcel Gagnon, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Dick Proctor, Bob Speller, Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Kevin Sorenson for David L. Anderson.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Marysburg Organic Producers Inc.: Eric Leicht, Administrator. From the Schmidt Flowers Inc.: Arnold Schmidt, President. From the Organic Special Products Group: John Husband. From the Canadian Organic Advisory Board: Allan Graff, President. From the Canadian Wheat Board: Ken Ritter, Board Chair; Larry Hill, CWB Director; Jim Thompson, Senior Marketing Manager, Domestic and Export Wheat Products and U.S.A.. As Individual: Neil Strayer, Organic Producer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study of the future role of the Federal Government in Canada's Agricultural sector.

Eric Leicht, Arnold Schmidt, John Husband, Allan Graf, Neil Strayer made opening statements and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:12 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
