The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in a televised session at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Claude Duplain, Mark Eyking, Marcel Gagnon, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor, Bob Speller, Paul Steckle, Suzanne Tremblay.
Associate Members present: Carol Skelton and Kevin Sorenson.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge and Jean-Denis Fréchette Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Dr. André Gravel, Executive Vice-President; Jean Chartier, Vice-President, Public and Regulatory Affairs; Susanne Frost, Acting Director, Enforcement and Investigation Services - Operations; Dr. Douglas MacLeod, District Veterinarian, Kingston District Office - Animal Programs. From the Department of National Defence: Captain (Navy) Bruce Donaldson, From the Director General, International Security Policy; LCol Benoit Carrier, From the Chief of Staff J3; Director General, Military Plans and Operations. Dr. André Gravel and Captain (Navy) Bruce Donaldson made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 11:07 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
