Meeting No. 8

Thursday, March 29, 2001

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Gérard Binet, Jean-Guy Carignan, Rodger Cuzner, John Finlay, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Pat Martin, Guy St-Julien, Maurice Vellacott.

Acting Members present: Charles Hubbard for John Godfrey; Ghislain Fournier for Richard Marceau.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages; Mary Hurley, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Inuit Tapirisat of Canada: Pitseolak Pfeifer, Director of Social Economic Development; Roy Wilson, Researcher. From the Assembly of First Nations: Greg Carter, Director, Housing and Infrastructure; Kenneth Young, Regional Chief, Manitoba.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), An inquiry into the Crisis in Aboriginal Housing.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources be granted an operational budget in the amount of $48,800.00 for the budget period of April 1st to June 30, 2001 (fiscal year 2001-2002).

Pitseolak Pfeifer, Greg Carter and Kenneth Young made statements and answered questions.

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
