Thursday, March 14, 2002

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met in a video-recorded session at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Raymond Bonin, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Raymond Bonin, Jean-Guy Carignan, John Finlay, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Richard Marceau, Pat Martin, Maurice Vellacott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages; Mary Hurley, Carol Hilling, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Native Women's Association of Canada: Terri Brown, President; Sylvia Baptiste, Administrator. From the National Aboriginal Women's Association: Pamela Paul, President; Jennifer Sinclair, Vice-president.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of an overview of the Indian Act (See Minutes of Proceedings of February 19, 2002).

Terri Brown made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Pamela Paul made an opening statement and with Jennifer Sinclair answered questions.

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
