MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 20

Thursday, October 4, 2001

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Ray Bonin, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Gérard Binet, Ray Bonin, Jean-Guy Carignan, David Chatters, Reed Elley, John Finlay, John Godfrey, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gerald Keddy, Benoît Serré, Guy St-Julien, Maurice Vellacott.

Acting Members present: Paul DeVilliers for Benoît Serré.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Mary Hurley, and Tonina Simeone, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.

On motion of Reed Elley, it was agreed, -That Ray Bonin be elected Chair of the Committee.

Accordingly, Ray Bonin was declared duly elected Chair of the Committee and took the Chair.

On motion of Dave Chatters, it was agreed, --That Nancy Karetak-Lindell be elected Vice-chair of the Committee.

On motion of John Godfrey it was agreed, --That Maurice Vellacott be elected Vice-chair of the Committee.

It was agreed, --That the Committee meet on Tuesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. with the purpose, on October 16 of hearing from the Mayor of Iqaliut, Nunavut regarding Bill C-33 for the first hour, and to discuss future business for the second hour; and on October 18 to hear from departmental witnesses respecting Bill C-33.

At 10:04 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
