The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 11:19 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Gérard Binet, Serge Cardin, Jean-Guy Carignan, David Chatters, Rodger Cuzner, John Finlay, John Godfrey, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gerald Keddy.

Acting Member(s) present: Stephen Owen for Larry Bagnell.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages; Mary Hurley, research officers.

Appearing: From the Department of Natural Resources: Ralph Goodale, Minister of Natural Resources.

Witness(es): From the Department of Natural Resources: Ric Cameron, Acting Deputy Minister, Energy Sector; Bruce Holden, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Sector.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed its inquiry into the Crisis in Aboriginal Housing. (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence dated March 27, 2001, meeting no 7).

Bu unanimous consent it was agreed, - That the Committee discuss a draft letter to the Minister on the crisis in Aboriginal Housing.

After debate it was agreed, - That the draft text, as amended, be adopted.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of the House dated February 27, 2001, Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2002, Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 under NATURAL RESOURCES.

Ralph Goodale made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 1:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
