Friday, October 20, 2000
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 12:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Steve Mahoney, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mac Harb, Loyola Hearn, Marlene Jennings, Dale Johnston, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Beth Phinney, John Richardson, Benoît Sauvageau and Alex Shepherd.
Acting Members present: Eugene Bellemare for Judy Sgro; Joe Clark for Loyola Hearn; Stockwell Day for John Williams; John Duncan for Gary Lunn; Wayne Easter for John Finlay; Gordon Earle and Yvon Godin for Michelle Dockrill; Raymonde Folco for Mac Harb; Raymonde Folco for John Richardson; Ivan Grose for Sophia Leung; Francine Lalonde and Suzanne Tremblay for Gilles-A. Perron; Christine Stewart and Ian Murray for Marlene Jennings.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; Michael McLaughlin, Deputy Auditor General, Corporate Services; Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e) and the special order of the House dated October 20, 2000, the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the October 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 17, 2000.
L. Denis Desautels made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
The Vice-Chair presented the Final Report of the Sub-Committee on International Financial Reporting Guidelines and Standards for the Public Sector which read as follows:
- That the Chair of the Sub-Committee on International Financial Reporting Guidelines and Standards for the Public Sector report to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts that the Sub-Committee adopted the Draft Report dated October 16, 2000, as amended, and that the Sub-Committee recommends that the Report, as amended, be considered by the Standing Committee at a subsequent meeting during this Parliament or at the beginning of the next Parliament.
At 2:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned.
