Wednesday, May 17, 2000
The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 306, West Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, Art Hanger, Jim Hart, René Laurin, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, Janko Peric, David Pratt and Elsie Wayne.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed consideration of a draft report on Contracting and Procurement Policy.
At 3:35 p.m., the Committee proceeded to a public meeting.
On motion of Art Hanger, it was agreed, - That, given the serious allegations made last week by the Ombudsman, Mr. Marin, regarding the attitudes and actions of the JAG's office, and given the recent proposed motion by members of this committee to issue a declaration of support for the Ombudsman, the JAG be invited to testify before this committee in order to fully comprehend his perception of the Ombudsman's role vis-à-vis the legal and security branches of the Canadian Forces.
At 3:43 p.m., the Committee proceeded to an in camera meeting.
The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.
At 5:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
