Meeting No. 34

Tuesday, May 9, 2000

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, Art Hanger, René Laurin, John O'Reilly, David Pratt, George Proud and Elsie Wayne.

Other Member present: Bob Speller.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: André Marin, Ombudsman, Office of the Ombudsman; Barb Finlay, Director General of Investigations, Office of the Ombudsman; David Paciocco, Independent Legal Counsel, Office of the Ombudsman.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Mandate of the Department of National Defence.

André Marin made an opening statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
