The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Peter Goldring, Art Hanger, Judi Longfield, Paul Mercier, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, Janko Peric, David Pratt, Elsie Wayne and Bob Wood.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.
Appearing: From the Department of Veterans Affairs Canada: The Hon. George S. Baker, Minister of Veterans Affairs.
Witnesses: From the Department of Veterans Affairs Canada: Larry Murray, Deputy Minister; Brian Ferguson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Veterans Services; Keith Hillier, A/Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services; Michaela Huard, Director General, Portfolio Executive Services.
The Committee proceeded to its Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, February 29, 2000 relating to the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001 - Votes 1, 5 and 10 under Veterans Affairs.
The Minister made an opening statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:40 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
