The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Peter Goldring, René Laurin, Judi Longfield, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, Janko Peric, David Pratt, George Proud, Elsie Wayne and Bob Wood.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From Veterans Against Nuclear Arms - Toronto: Lt Eldon Comfort, Member. From Science for Peace: Dr. Paul A. Hamel, University of Toronto. From the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia: Janis Straume, Chairman of the Saeima (Parliament), Republic of Latvia; Janis Lusis, Ambassador; Silvija Dreimane, Secretary of the Saeima (Member of Saeima); Edvins Inkens, Member of Saeima; Silva Golde, Member of Saeima.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Revolution in Military Affairs - National Missile Defence.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 5:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
