Meeting No. 6

Wednesday, December 1st, 1999

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Andy Scott, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Michel Bellehumeur, Chuck Cadman, Paul DeVillers, Ivan Grose, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay, Jacques Saada and Andy Scott.

Acting Member present: Judy Sgro for Aileen Carroll.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Association of Police Boards: Wendy L. Fedec, Executive Director; Mike Badham, Past-President. From the Canadian Police Association: Grant Obst, President. From the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa-Carleton: Gord Boyd, Director.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, November 23, 1999, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-3, An Act in respect of criminal justice for young persons and to amend and repeal other Acts (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 30, 1999 , Meeting No. 5).

John McKay gave notice to the Committee of his intention to ask the Committee to pursue the question of Mr. Craig Bromell's statements on the CBC Television program "The Fifth Estate" on November 24, 1999.

At 5:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
