MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 39

Thursday, April 6, 2000

The Standing Committee on Industry met in camera at 9:16 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Pierre Brien, Gerry Byrne, John Cannis, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Dan McTeague, Ian Murray, Charlie Penson and Susan Whelan.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Gérald Lafrenière, Research Officer.

Subject matter of Bill C-229, An Act to amend the Canada Post Corporation Act (letter that cannot be transmitted by post).

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of the draft report.

Dan McTeague moved, - That the Draft Report be concurred in.

And the question being put on the motion it was agreed to, on division.

On motion on Ian Murray, it was agreed, - That the Chair present the Report to the House at the earliest possible opportunity.

On motion of Gurbax Malhi, it was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Draft Report to the House.

It was agreed, - That the Committee authorize the printing of a dissenting opinion of the Bloc Québecois as an appendix to this report immediately following the signature of the Chair and that the dissenting opinion be limited to one page at 12 point font size and be received by the Clerk of the Committee no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2000.

On motion of Walt Lastewka, it was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to this report within one hundred and fifty (150) days.

At 9:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
