MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 38

Tuesday, April 4, 2000

The Standing Committee on Industry met in camera at 9:40 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Cannis, Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Ian Murray, Werner Schmidt and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: Ivan Grose for Gerry Byrne, Jacques Saada for Dan McTeague and John Maloney for Jerry Pickard.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer.

Pursuant to the Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a study concerning Productivity, Innovation and Competitiveness.

The Committee resumed consideration of the draft report.

On motion of Marlene Jennings, it was agreed, - That any dissenting opinions be limited to not more than four (4) pages at 12 point font size.

On motion of Marlene Jennings, it was agreed, - That any dissenting opinions be received in both official languages by the Clerk no later than Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at 4:30 p.m.

On motion of Marlene Jennings, it was agreed, - That the Committee authorize the printing of dissenting opinions of the Canadian Alliance, Bloc Québeçois and N.D.P. as appendices to this report, immediately following the signature of the Chair.

Marlene Jennings moved, - That the Draft Report as amended be concurred in.

And the question being put on the motion was agreed to, on division.

On motion of Marlene Jennings, it was agreed, That the Chair present the Draft Report as amended to the House at the earliest possible opportunity.

On motion of Marlene Jennings, it was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to this report within one hundred fifty (150) days.

On motion of Marlene Jennings, it was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Draft Report to the House.

On motion of Marlene Jennings, it was agreed, - That the Committee authorize the printing with distinctive cover of 1500 English copies and 500 French copies of the Report.

At 9:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
