The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Pierre Brien, John Cannis, Jim Jones, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Ian Murray, Charlie Penson, Jerry Pickard and Susan Whelan.

Other Member present: Dan McTeague.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Daniel Shaw, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy: Dr. Stuart Smith, Chairman; David J. McGuinty, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. From TD Bank Financial Group: Peter Drake, Vice-President and Deputy Chief Economist. From the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research: Dr. Fraser Mustard, Founding President and Bell Canada Fellow. From the Institute for Sustainable Development: Colin Isaacs, President, Contemporary Information Analysis Ltd.. From the University of Toronto: Roger Martin, Dean, Rotman School of Management. From Nesbitt Burns: Douglas Porter, Senior Economist and Vice-President.

Pursuant to the Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a study concerning Productivity, Innovation and Competitiveness.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 10:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:51 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 11:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
