Tuesday, February 8, 2000

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:12 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Yvan Bernier, John Cummins, Wayne Easter, Bill Gilmour, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Bill Matthews, Carmen Provenzano, Peter Stoffer.

Acting Member(s) present: Marcel Proulx for Claude Drouin.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon.

Witness(es): From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada: Matthew King, Acting Deputy Minister, Oceans; Daniel McDougall, Acting Director General, Ocean Directorate. From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Dick Carson, Regional Director, Oceans - Pacific Region; Faith Scattolon, Regional Director, Oceans - Maritimes. From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada: Camille Mageau, Director, Marine Ecosystems & Conservation Branch.

Pursuant to Section 52 of the Oceans Act, the Committee undertook a Review of the Act.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

On motion of Sarkis Assadourian it was agreed, - That the hospitality expenses incurred during the Committee travel throughout the East Coast be approved.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
