Meeting No. 90

Wednesday, October 18, 2000

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 7:02 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roy Cullen and Ken Epp.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Payments Association: Robert Hammond, General Manager. From the Canadian Banking Ombudsman: Michael Lauber, President.

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-38, An Act to establish the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada and to amend certain Acts in relation to financial institutions (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, September 28, 2000, Meeting No. 81).

On Clause 1.

Robert Hammond and Michael Lauber made statements and answered questions.

At 7:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
