Meeting No. 40

Tuesday, May 30, 2000

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a televised session at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Charles L. Caccia, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Dennis Gruending, John Herron, Rahim Jaffer, Karen Kraft Sloan, David Pratt and Paddy Torsney.

Acting Member present: Ted White for David Chatters.

Associate Member present: Aileen Carroll.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert and Linda Webster, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Richard Smith, Acting Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development; Ellen Shillabeer, Principal, Audit Operations; Gisèle Grandbois, Director, Audit Operations; James Hood, Principal, Audit Operations.

The Committee commenced its consideration of the Report of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development to the House of Commons for the year 2000, tabled pursuant to the Act to amend the Auditor General Act, S.C. 1995, c.43, sbs. 23(3), (deemed referred Tuesday, May 30, 2000, pursuant to Standing Order 32 (5)).

Richard Smith made a statement and with Gisèle Grandbois and Ellen Shillabeer answered questions.

At 12:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
