MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 11

Wednesday, December 1st, 1999

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Karen Kraft Sloan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, John Herron, Joe Jordan, Karen Kraft Sloan, Walt Lastewka, Peter Mancini, Julian Reed, Paddy Torsney.

Acting Member present: Monte Solberg for Rahim Jaffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Christine Labelle, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Ontario College of Family Physicians: Dr. Peter Sakuls, Member; Lauren Vanderlinden, Researcher. From the Canadian Environmental Law Association: Kathy Cooper, Researcher, Paul Muldoon, Executive Director. From the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment: Dr. Kelly Martin, Member of the Board of Directors.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed its study on the management and use of pesticides in Canada including an evaluation of the performance of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency in preventing pollution and in protecting the environment and human health (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 26,1999 (Meeting no. 1)).

By unanimous consent Peter Mancini moved -That representatives of Cantox Inc. be called as witnesses for the pesticides study before the adjournment of the House for Christmas.

After debate the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Dr. Peter Sakuls, Lauren Vanderlinden, Kathy Cooper and Dr. Kelly Martin made statements and with Paul Muldoon answered questions

At 5:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
