Wednesday, June 7, 2000

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:42 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Leon Benoit, Bernard Bigras, Joe Fontana, Rick Limoges and John McKay.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: As Individual: Peter M. Larlee, Immigration Lawyer, Vancouver, BC. From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Jean Roberge, Director General, International Region; William A. Sheppit, Director General, Case Management.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 3 (Citizenship and Immigration Canada - The Economic Component of the Canadian Immigration Program) of the Report of the Auditor General of Canada, April 2000. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, May 31, 2000, Meeting No. 28)

Peter M. Larlee made a statement and answered questions.

Jean Roberge from the Department of Citizenship and Immigration made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 9:00 a.m., Thursday, June 8, 2000.
