The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:07 a.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Gar Knutson, Joe McGuire, Ian Murray, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle, Rose-Marie Ur.
Acting Member present: Roy Bailey for Gerry Ritz.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher; Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Larry Hillier, Vice-President, Operations; Peter Brackenridge, Acting Vice-President, Programs; Dr. Brian Evans, Executive Director, Animal Products Directorate; Margaret Kenny, Director, Office of Biotechnology.
Pursuant to Standing Orders 108(2) and 81(5) (6), and its Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 29, 2000, from the House, consideration of the Main Estimates, VOTES (Agriculture and Agri-Food - 25, 30), and Part III - Report on Plans and Priorities.
Larry Hillier made an opening statement and with the witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:49 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
