MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 52

Tuesday, April 20, 1999

The Standing Committee on Transport met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Roy Cullen, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Roy Bailey, Murray Calder, John Cannis, Bill Casey, Roy Cullen, Bev Desjarlais, Stan Dromisky, Claude Drouin, Michel Guimond, Ovid Jackson, Lee Morrison, Lou Sekora.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Researcher.

Witnesses: From Transport Canada: Louis Ranger, Assistant Deputy Minister; Brian Carr, Acting Director General; Air Policy; Valérie Dufour, Director; Air Policy; John Forster, Director General, Environmental Affairs; Eric Mainville, Senior Policy Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced a study on the Competitiveness of Canada's Air Transportation System.

On motion of John Cannis, it was unanimously agreed to,--That the Committee adopt the Terms of Reference prepared by the Researcher for the study on the Competitiveness of Canada's Air Transportation System.

Louis Ranger made an opening statement and, with Valérie Dufour, Brian Carr, Eric Mainville and John Forster, made a presentation and answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was suspended.

At 5:18 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting resumed in camera.

It was agreed that Air Canada and Canadian Airlines be invited to appear during the week of April 26, 1999 and that the sitting be held in camera.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
