Meeting No. 66

Tuesday, June 1st, 1999

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Finlay, Mac Harb, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Gilles-A. Perron, Beth Phinney, John Williams.

Acting Member present: Christiane Gagnon for Serge Cardin.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis; Brian O'Neal, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: David Rattray, Assistant Auditor General, Audit Operations Branch; Lewis Auerbach, Director, Audit Operations Branch. From the Human Resources Development Canada: Claire M. Morris, Deputy Minister; Susan Scotti, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources Investment Branch; Margaret Biggs, Associate Executive Head, Strategic Policy.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter 6 (Human Resources Development Canada - Accountability for Shared Social Programs: National Child Benefit and Employability Assistance for People with Disabilities) of the April 1999 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

David Rattray and Claire M. Morris made an opening statement and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
