Meeting No. 65
Thursday, May 27, 1999
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, John Finlay, Mac Harb, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Beth Phinney, Elsie Wayne, John Williams.
Acting Members present: Denis Paradis for Jerry Pickard, Yvan Bernier for Gilles-A. Perron.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis and Brian O'Neal, Research Officers.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider a draft Report on Chapter 4 (Fisheries and Oceans - Managing Atlantic Shellfish in a Sustainable Manner) of the April 1999 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
Elsie Wayne moved, - That this Committee request the Auditor General of Canada to conduct a comprehensive audit of loans and grants accorded to Les Enterprises Yvon Duhaime Inc. and 9047-4412 Quebec Inc. by various Government of Canada departments and agencies.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was, by a show of hands, negatived: YEAS: 3 NAYS: 6.
It was agreed, - That the Draft Report on Chapter 2 (Revenue Canada), as amended, be adopted as the twenty-ninth Report of the Committee and that the Chair present it to the House.
It was agreed, - That the Draft Report on Chapter 4 (Fisheries and Oceans --Managing Atlantic shellfish in a Sustainable Manner), as amended, be adopted as the Thirtieth Report of the Committee and that the Chair present it to the House.
It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Reports as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Reports.
It was agreed, - That the Chair of the Committee be authorized to seek the authority and the necessary funds to permit up to five (5) members of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and three (3) staff persons of the Committee to travel to Quebec, to attend the Twentieth Annual Conference of the Canadian Council of Public Accounts Committees from August 29 to 31, 1999; and that the members attending the Conference utilize their air travel points to travel to the Conference.
At 5:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
