The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Lynn Myers, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Serge Cardin, John Finlay, Paul Forseth, Ivan Grose, Mac Harb, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Gilles-A. Perron and Beth Phinney.

Acting Member(s) present: Gurbax Malhi for Steve Mahoney.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis and Brian O'Neal, Research Officers.

Witness(es):From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; Ron Thompson, Assistant Auditor General; Douglas Timmins, Assistant Auditor General; From the Treasury Board of Canada - Secretariat: J. Colin Potts, Deputy Comptroller General; Richard Neville, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Comptroller General; Jim Libbey, Director, Financial Management Standards.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of Chapter 18 (The Financial Information Strategy: A Key Ingredient in Getting Government Right) of the September 1998 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

Denis Desautels and Colin Potts made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:15 p.m., the acting Chair acknowledged the presence of Mr. Pandiin Byambatseren, Deputy Secretary General of the Grand Hural of Mongolia.

At 5:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
