MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 42

Tuesday, October 27, 1998

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:43 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Serge Cardin, John Finlay, Paul Forseth, Ivan Grose, Mac Harb, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers and John Williams.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis and Brian O'Neal, Research Officers.

Witnesses :From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: David Rattray, Assistant Auditor General; Alan Gilmore, Principal, Audit Operations; From the Canadian Human Rights Commission: Michelle Falardeau-Ramsay, Chair; John Hucker, Secretary General; From the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal: Anne Mactavish, Chairperson; Michael P. Glynn, Registrar. From the Department of Justice: Patricia Lindsay, Counsel, Public Law Policy Section.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter 10 (Canadian Human Rights Commission, Human Rights Tribunal Panel) of the September 1998 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

David Rattray from the office of the Auditor General made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

Michelle Falardeau-Ramsay from the Human Rights Commission made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

Anne Mactavish from the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal made a statement and answered questions.

Patricia Lindsay from the Department of Justice answered questions.

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
