Meeting No. 39
Thursday, October 1st, 1998
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).
Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Eugène Bellemare, Serge Cardin, John Finlay, Ivan Grose, Mac Harb, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Gilles-A. Perron, and John Williams.
Acting Members present: John MacKay for Steve Mahoney; Carmen Provenzano for Jerry Pickard; Gurmant Grewal for Jason Kenney; André Harvey for Elsie Wayne.
Other Member present: Rey Pagtakhan.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis and Brian O'Neal, Research Officers.
Witnesses: :From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; Michael McLaughlin, Deputy Auditor General; David Rattray, Assistant Auditor General; Grant Wilson, Principal, Audit Operations Branch.
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
On motion of Philip Mayfield, seconded by Ivan Grose, it was agreed, – That John Williams do take the Chair of this Committee as Chairman.
John Williams took the Chair.
On motion of Mac Harb, it was agreed, – That Lynn Myers be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
On motion of Lynn Myers, it was agreed, – That Ivan Grose be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the September 1998 Report of the Auditor General of Canada referred to the Committee on Tuesday, September 29, 1998.
L. Denis Desautels made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 4:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
