Meeting No. 33

Tuesday, May 26, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:44 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 253-D of the Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Elinor Caplan, Gurmant Grewal, Ivan Grose, René Laurin, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Rey Pagtakhan and John Williams.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels,
Auditor General of Canada; Nancy Cheng, Principal, Audit Operations Branch. From the Treasury Board Secretariat: Paul Rummell, Chief Information Officer; Guy McKenzie, Assistant Secretary, CIO Year 2000 Project; Jim Bimson, Program Director, Year 2000 Office. From Human Resources Development Canada: Hy Braiter, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Service Delivery. From the Public Works and Government Services Canada: Grant Westcott, Assistant Deputy Minister, Government Telecommunications and Informatics Services.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 12 of the April and October 1997 Report of the Auditor General Of Canada (Information Technology: Preparedness for Year 2000). (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, October 28, 1997, Meeting No. 5).

L. Denis Desautels and Paul Rummell made opening statements.

In accordance with the order of the Committee adopted on Wednesday, October 8, 1997 the Chair authorized that the written statement of Paul Rummell be appended to this day’s evidence. (See Appendix PACC-3).

The witnesses answered questions.

At 5:35 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
