Thursday, May 14, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:31 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 253-D of the Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Ivan Grose, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Elinor Caplan, Mac Harb, Ivan Grose, René Laurin and Lynn Myers.

Acting Members present: Rob Anders for Philip W. Mayfield, Mauril Bélanger for Andrew Telegdi, John Reynolds for Gurmant Grewal.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Brian Emmett, Commissioner, Environment and Sustainable Development. From Environment Canada: François Guimont, Assistant Deputy Minister, Environmental Protection Service; David Wardle, Chief, Experimental Studies Division, Air Quality Research Branch, Atmospheric Environment Service. From Public Works and Government Services Canada: Bruce Lorimer, Director General, Architectural and Engineering Services. From Health Canada: Rod Raphael, Acting Director General, Environmental Health Directorate, Health Protection Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed resuming consideration of Chapter 27 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Ozone Layer Protection - - The Unfinished Journey). (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, February 26, 1998).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:23 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
