Meeting No. 25

Tuesday, March 31, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:31 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Mac Harb, René Laurin, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Andrew Telegdi and Elsie Wayne.

Acting Member present: Gerry Ritz for Gurmant Grewal.

Other Member present: Eleni Bakopanos.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L.Denis Desautels, Auditor General; Ron Thompson, Assistant Auditor General; Crystal Pace, Principal, Audit Operations Branch. From the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions: John Palmer, Superintendent of Financial Institutions; John Thompson, Deputy Superintendent, Policy Sector; Edna MacKenzie, Assistant Superintendent, Corporate Services Sector.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of Chapter 30 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions - Insurance and Pensions) (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Wednesday, December 3, 1997, Meeting No. 12).

L. Denis Desautels and John Palmer made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:16 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
