The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised meeting at 3:32 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Sue Barnes, Mac Harb, Gurmant Grewal, Ivan Grose, René Laurin, Steve Mahoney, Lynn Myers, Rey Pagtakhan, Elsie Wayne and John Williams.
Acting Members present: Rick Casson for Philip W. Mayfield; John Solomon for Lorne Nystrom.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; Richard Flageole, Assistant Auditor General; Harry A. Ruthnum, Principal, Audit Operations Branch. From Industry Canada: Kevin G. Lynch, Deputy Minister; Peter Sagar, Director General, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Office; Marie-Josée Thivierge, Director, Strategic Planning and Corporate Services; Serge Croteau, Director General, Programs and Services.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of Chapter 29 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Industry Canada -- Management of the Small Business Loans Program) (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Wednesday, December 3, 1997, Meeting No. 12).
L. Denis Desautels and Kevin G. Lynch made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:28 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
