The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:33 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Odina Desrochers, Mac Harb, Gurmant Grewal, Ivan Grose, René Laurin, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Rey Pagtakhan, Andrew Telegdi, Elsie Wayne and John Williams.
Acting Member present: Gurbax Malhi for Steve Mahoney.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.
From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; Richard Flageole, Assistant Auditor General; Serge Gaudet, Principal, Audit Operations Branch. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of Chapter 25 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Immigration and Refugee Board -- The Processing of Refugee Claims) (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Wednesday, December 3, 1997, Meeting No. 12).
L. Denis Desautels, Janice Cochrane and Nurjehan Mawani made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:33 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
