The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:37 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Mac Harb, Gurmant Grewal, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Andrew Telegdi and John Williams.
Acting Member present: Jocelyne Girard-Bujold for René Laurin.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal, Research Officer.
Witnesses: (Roundtable Format) From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General. From the Department of Health: Paul Cochrane, Assistant Deputy Minister, Medical Services Branch; Jay Wortman, Director General of Non-Insured Health Benefits; Myra Conway, Director of Programs and Operations Coordination.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 13 of the April and October 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (Health Canada - - First Nations Health) (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, October 21, 1997, Meeting No. 3).
L. Denis Desautels from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada made a statement.
Paul Cochrane from the Department of Health summarized his statement.
On motion of Elinor Caplan, it was agreed, - That the statement of Paul Cochrane, Department of Health, be appended to this day’s evidence.
The witnesses answered questions.
At 5:20 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
