MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 10

Tuesday, November 25, 1997

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:38 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Sue Barnes, Elinor Caplan, Odina Desrochers, Mac Harb, Gurmant Grewal, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Lynn Myers, Andrew Telegdi and John Williams.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 12 of the April and October 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Information Technology: Preparedness for Year 2000) (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, October 21, 1997, Meeting No. 3).

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of a Draft Report respecting Chapter 12.

The Committee considered the Draft Report and proposed amendments thereto.

On motion of Andrew Telegdi, it was agreed, - That the Draft Report, as amended, be concurred in.

On motion of Sue Barnes, it was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

On motion of Lynn Myers, it was ordered, - That the Report, as amended, be presented by the Chair of the Committee to the House of Commons.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters relating to reports of the Committee presented to the House during the 35th Parliament.

On motion of Andrew Telegdi, it was agreed, - That the Chair of the Committee present a report to the House requesting that the Government provide to the Committee comprehensive responses, in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 109, to the following Reports of the Committee presented to the House of Commons during the last few months of the Thirty-fifth Parliament :

the Fourth Report (Revenue Canada – Combatting Income Tax Avoidance), presented on February 10, 1997;
the Fifth Report (Service Quality) presented on April 7, 1997;
the Sixth Report (Canada Infrastructure Works Program – Lessons Learned) presented on April 14, 1997;
the Seventh Report (Materiel Management in the Federal Government) presented on April 15, 1997; and
the Ninth Report (Human Resources Development Canada – Canada Pension Plan: Disability) presented on April 23, 1997.

At 4:58 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
