MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
Wednesday, November 5, 1997
The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 6:01 o’clock p.m., this day, in room Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roger Gallaway, Jim Jones, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman, Monte Solberg, Paul Szabo and Tony Valeri.
Acting Members present: Diane Ablonczy for Dick Harris; Paul Crête for Yvan Loubier; John McKay for Paddy Torsney; Lorne Nystrom for Nelson Riis.
Associate Member present: Joe Fontana.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Marion Wrobel, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Fraser Institute: Michael Walker, Executive Director. From the National Federation of Nurses Unions: Kathleen Connors, President; Debra McPherson, Secretary Treasurer. From the Council of Canadians with Disabilities: Mel Graham, Communications Officer; Harry Beatty, Legal Counsel (ARCH). From the Canadian Youth Foundation: Lucie Bohac Konrad, Executive Director.
The Committee resumed its examination of Bill C-2, An Act to establish the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and to amend the Canada Pension Plan and the Old Age Security and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 28, Meeting No. 30).
Michael Walker made a presentation and answered questions.
