[Translation]

The Clerk of the Committee: Honourable members of the committee, since we have a quorum, I would like to call this meeting to order.

[English]

In accordance with Standing Orders 106(1) and 106(2), your first item of business is to elect the chair. I am ready to receive a motion to that effect.

Mr. Lou Sekora (Port Moody—Coquitlam—Port Coquitlam, Lib.): I will nominate Stan Keyes.

(Motion agreed to)

The Clerk: I declare Mr. Stan Keyes duly elected chair of the committee.

The Chair (Mr. Stan Keyes (Hamilton West, Lib.)): Good, my election goes through there right now.

Unanimity. Madam Chair, did you record that?

Thank you, colleagues. It was a hard-fought battle.

The clerk informs me that my first order of business is the election of the first vice-chair.

Mr. Jim Gouk (Kootenay—Boundary—Okanagan, Canadian Alliance): I nominate Jay Hill.

The Chair: We have a nomination from Mr. Gouk that Jay Hill be nominated.

Are there any nominations on this side?

Mr. Claude Drouin (Beauce, Lib.): I nominate Joe Comuzzi.

The Chair: Mr. Claude Drouin nominates Joe Comuzzi. There's also a second vice-chair, of course, to be nominated.

Any other nominations for first vice-chair? Seeing none, we'll take them in the order I received them.

Mr. Jim Gouk: On a point of order, Mr. Chairman, to expedite this, because I know we have a lot of important business to cover, seeing as there are two nominations, two chairs, and you're taking them in the order they're given, I therefore move that Jay Hill be the first vice-chair and Joe Comuzzi be the second vice-chair and that we get on with—

The Chair: That was a nice suggestion. Do you want to amend your motion?

Mr. Jim Gouk: In what way? I thought that was fair.

The Chair: Why does it say first and second vice-chair?

The Clerk: It doesn't have to.

The Chair: They're equally vice-chairs.

Mr. Jim Gouk: A vice-chair is a vice-chair.

The Chair: We have a motion on the floor that Mr. Comuzzi and Mr. Hill be vice-chairs of the Standing Committee on Transport.

(Motion agreed to)

The Clerk: Do you want to go in camera for future business?

The Chair: We'll now go in camera for future business of the committee.
