On Friday, October 23, the Committee adopted the following motion:
That, pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the committee undertake a study of no less than 3 meetings to: a. receive an update on the federal government’s progress in negotiations of a Canada-United Kingdom transitional trade agreement; b. hear from stakeholders affected by the implementation of a new Canada-United Kingdom transitional trade agreement; c. study the impacts of a lack of a transitional agreement with the United Kingdom being in place by December 31, 2020, when the application of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) to the United Kingdom ends; that this study begin no later than November 13, 2020; that briefs submitted to the committee be no longer that 2,000 words; that the committee report its findings to the House.
The committee is currently receiving submissions from those interested in this topic. Submissions should not exceed 2,000 words. Once received, briefs are translated, distributed to committee members and posted on the committee's website.
The deadline for submitting briefs has not been set. But please note that the committee has decided to begin this study as early as the week of November 16, 2020. Interested parties are therefore invited to submit their briefs as soon as possible. As soon as a deadline has been set, it will be posted on the committee's website.
