Leave granted: situation in Myanmar

Context

On September 25, 2017, Garnett Genuis (Sherwood ParkFort Saskatchewan) rose in the House to request that an emergency debate be held, pursuant to Standing Order 52(2), on the situation in Myanmar and Canada’s response pertaining to the Rohingya people.[1]

Resolution

The Speaker ruled immediately, granting Mr. Genuis’ request, including scheduling the debate the following day at the ordinary hour of daily adjournment.

Decision of the Chair

The Speaker: I thank the hon. member for Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan for his argument. I do find that it meets the exigencies of the Standing Order. The emergency debate will be scheduled for tomorrow evening, as he has suggested, and I thank him for that suggestion.
