Pursuant to the order of reference of Monday, May 30, 2022, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Official Languages Act, to enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.

Michel Bastarache and Yves Giroux made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Joël Godin moved, — That, in relation to its consideration of Bill C-13, the committee reiterate its invitation to appear of Thursday, October 6, 2022, to the ministers of Official Languages, Canadian Heritage, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Francis Drouin moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words "Citizenship Canada“ the words "and that the committee report the bill back to the House before the holidays” .

By unanimous consent, the amendment was withdrawn.

The committee resumed consideration of the motion of Joël Godin.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 12:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Patrick Taillon and Pierre Asselin made statements and answered questions.

At 1:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:05 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

At 1:22 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
