The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the routine motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, MPs Brigitte Sansoucy and Terry Duguid and certain staff members be allowed to attend today's in camera meeting.

It was agreed, — That the Chair of the Committee invite the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, to appear before the Committee at his earliest convenience to present an update on his ministerial mandate as it relates to poverty reduction, to outline the Government’s intention to address poverty in Canada as it relates to the motion of the study, and to address relevant questions from the members.

It was agreed, — That, as part of its study of poverty reduction strategies, the Committee hear from five (5) witnesses per meeting and that witnesses have seven (7) minutes for their opening remarks, at the discretion of the Chair.

It was agreed, — That, as part of its study of poverty reduction strategies, the Committee hear from the various departments concerned during a two-hour briefing session to be held at the beginning of each of the areas of study.

It was agreed, — That, as part of the study of poverty reduction strategies, the members will provide the Clerk with a list of possible cities to include on the travel itinerary by Monday, October 3, 2016, at the latest.

It was agreed, — That at its first meeting in 2017, the Committee set a deadline for the submission of briefs as part of its study of poverty reduction strategies.

At 9:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:09 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to the Centennial Flame Research Award Act and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, the Committee commenced its study of the 2016 Centennial Flame Research Award.

It was agreed, — That Brian Hill be the recipient of the 2016 Centennial Flame Research Award and that a press release be published on the Committee's website.

At 10:13 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
