The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.
At 11:20 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.
It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.
It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Taking Action: Improving the Lives of Canadians Living with Episodic Disabilities".
It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.
It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.
It was agreed, — That dissenting and/or supplementary opinions be in Calibri 12 point font, single line spacing, left aligned; that titles be in Cambria 14 point font; and be submitted electronically, in both official languages, to the Clerk of the Committee, not later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019.
ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.
ORDERED, — That the analysts and the Clerk of the Committee, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a news release for publication on the Committee's website and for distribution upon presentation of the report to the House.
At 11:28 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 12:31 p.m., the sitting resumed in a public and televised session.
The ministers made statements and answered questions.
Brigitte Sansoucy moved, — That the Committee undertake a study for at least six meetings on the Employment Insurance sickness benefits program to examine especially, but not exclusively (a) if the program meets the real needs of the claimants; (b) the impact of the length of the benefits on the claimants and on their recovery; (c) the program accessibility; (d) the population affected by this program and their characteristics; and hear, not limited to this list, witnesses from the health sector, former claimants or groups representing them, the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development; and that the Committee report its findings to the House.
Wayne Long moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.
The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.
Questioning of the witnesses resumed.
At 1:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
